That can add up to a few dollars every month, money that can be better spent (or saved) other ways.cksknitterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11987504207190553188noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4180885562539582088.post-25601647947425803042009-01-14T19:23:00.000-08:002009-01-14T19:23:00.000-08:00okay--it was kind of depressing at first. but once...okay--it was kind of depressing at first. but once we got a handle on it, it was great knowing we weren't going to run out of money between checks every month.

and cooking at home is great! definitely helps a lot.

i always pay the bills as soon as we get paid, and then take out cash for the month for the groceries etc (and gas, when we had a car). then i put that cash in envelopes for each week. not using the debit card for those expenses keeps it all in line--but that's another post. more to come!Obsidian Kittenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18142418658550510965noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4180885562539582088.post-4105772979304714062009-01-14T12:34:00.000-08:002009-01-14T12:34:00.000-08:00Oy...we've been trying to do this, and it's SO DEP...Oy...we've been trying to do this, and it's SO DEPRESSING. One ...Don't be silly, it's one for you, one for me.

One suggestion I heard that made it easier in the long run, was to have weekly No Spend Days. No spending any money for anything. This was strangely much harder and easier than it sounded. It was really bizarre what I spent money on some days.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4180885562539582088.post-59495403171573052452008-10-26T08:34:00.000-07:002008-10-26T08:34:00.000-07:00I know exactly what you're talking about! I got into a lot of trouble with credit cards and had to get rid of all my plastic in 1996 (not by choice, though) and it was *terrifying*.

Learning to live on cash (now also with a debit card, as you said) was probably the main thing that has saved me since then. Not that it was easy, but at least then you have to HAVE money to spend it.

Cheers!Obsidian Kittenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18142418658550510965noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4180885562539582088.post-8684300213326209762008-10-25T18:29:00.000-07:002008-10-25T18:29:00.000-07:00Ohhh, my disease of more was credit card spending....Ohhh, my disease of more was credit card spending...I won't go into the trouble found myself in here, it'd take too long. But, with the help of a really good financial guy, I cut my credit cards up (that was painful) and have paid cash ever since. Guess what, I actually have money in the back and investments now.

I do have a Visa, but it's a debit card...no fees and using my own money.
